My partner and I have continued to go into Mrs. Crull's class weekly. It has been so fun and the kids have had a really great time. Since spring break we have done a few science projects. One of the lessons was over clouds and how they form and why it rains. We brought in food coloring, mason jars and shaving cream to do this activity. The kids loved it and it was a fun hands on activity to do. We also did an activity with egg shells, dirt and chia seeds. We filled the shells with dirt and seeds and had them create little faces on it. Each week one of the students goes and waters them. They sit in the windowsill of their classroom. We have also done lessons on culture as well. Next week is our last week! We are planning on having game time that week for our lesson as a fun way to wrap up the year. fun with learning about clouds! classroom selfie:) egg project fun! learning about culture reading fun! It has been an incredible year and I am so happy I got to work in this classroom as my last project. I hope I influenced the kids and helped them grow and learn!

My partner Laura and I are continuing to work at NPE. We have absolute loved it. It does take a lot of planning and effort but it has been very worth it. Each week we come up with a new lesson to teach the kids during their SOAR time. We grade papers during the week as well. We organize papers and books. We do anything Mrs. Crull needs help with. For Valentine's day in February we created little hearts for the kids to hang up in the classroom. Other kids would then write nice things on their hearts. The kids insisted both Laura and I got hearts. When I went into the classroom on Wednesday I got to see my heart filled out. This was really sweet to see. Every day after lunch the kids walk outside to get back into their class. This is something the kids really love about their day. Some of the papers we sort and grade are math and english. We sort through scholastics almost every week as well. We talked about integrity the other week with the kids and taught them about what it means and how to show it. This week we talked about individualism. I thought a fun way to talk about ourselves would be through an all about me poem where the kids would share some of their likes, fears, and dreams. The kids did a really nice job drawing and writing about themselves. Along with the lesson this week Laura and I were tasked with creating the board in the hallway. We were asked to hang up their pamphlets about clouds and images of clouds. We decided to make it more artsy and use the cutting machine to cut out letters for a quote. We then went and stapled and arranged everything on the board. It was a lot of work but we were very happy with the final product and the bright affect it has on the school. Each week I truly look forward to spending time with the kids. It's been so fun helping Mrs. Crull and I can't wait to make more memories!
It's been a few weeks since we started our service project in the classroom. It has been an absolute blast for both Laura and I and the kids. Throughout the week on Monday, Tuesday and Friday we grade papers Mrs. Crull needs us to grade. We also work on projects and activities to take with us when we go in on Wednesday's. We have been doing a lot of emotional awareness activities since those are lessons teachers don't get to teach because of curriculum and time. The first time we went in we did an activity with honesty. The second week we talked about empathy and sympathy and today we talked about respect. We usually are there from 9:15-12:05. We take the kids to do lessons in their down time and then grade papers and organize during their classtime. It's been a really neat experience and I have grown to care for the kids so deeply. It's been awesome making the connections with the kids and impacting them. I have learned more classroom skills, education skills and challenged myself . the kids playing qbitz working on spatial skills and patterns! laura & i grading papers art class! silent work time more grading papersactivity learning about respect with toothpaste! It's been an absolute joy spending time and working with this class. I can't wait for what's to come and all the future fun we will have.
When starting a new project this semester my partner Laura and I wanted to do a project with kids. We started brainstorming and came up with adopting a teacher. We wanted to assist a teacher by freeing them up, being a helping hand, and helping the kids grow and learn. We were hoping to go in each Wednesday on our block and help the kids in the classroom. In our time in class when we aren't there we are planning on creating and planning new activities/crafts that we will be doing with the kids each week, grading papers for the teacher and organizing and planning lessons. We went to New Palestine Elementary on Friday after school and proposed our plan to a second grade teacher, Mrs. Crull. She was so happy to hear this proposal and was very excited about it. She approved everything we were wanting to do and said we could start next week! Laura and I have made a google form with ideas for activities/crafts/lessons we will use to bring in each week and we will continue to expand on it. I am super excited to start this project and enhance my skills with children, organization and education. The main goal behind this project is to help Mrs. Crull in this stressful time for teachers. I can't wait to grow and make connections with the kids!
